Icy Roads Cause Multiple Crashes in Iowa
According to KWWL, sheriff’s deputies claim icy conditions are the cause of multiple crashes across the state. Earlier this month, a one-car crash occurred just after 7 a.m. in the morning. A 36-year-old man was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango when he lost control of the vehicle presumably due to icy conditions.
According to police, the vehicle rolled several times before coming to a stop in the middle of the road. Responders took the driver to a local hospital where medical staff treated him for non-life threatening injuries. Police say the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
CBS2IOWA reports on another icy crash that occurred earlier this month, which injured one. According to police, the crash occurred shortly after 1 in the afternoon at the intersection of Fox Meadow Drive southeast and East Post Road. A 25-year-old man was driving south when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the center line of the road, hitting another vehicle heading north.
Neither driver sustained serious injuries, but responders had to take a passenger in the 25-year-old’s car to the hospital. Medical staff treated the passenger for non-life threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the crash.
Semi-Trailer Truck Crash Sends Two to Hospital, Closes Highway
KCRG9 reports on a collision between two semi-trailer trucks that occurred late last month on Highway 13. According to police, the crash occurred at around 2 in the morning. A 63-year-old man driving a semi rear-ended another semi that a 62-year-old was driving.
Police say the man who caused the accident failed to see that the semi in front of him was pulling to the side, and he did not decelerate fast enough. Responders took both drivers to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, where medical staff treated them for non-life threatening injuries. Police had to close the northbound right lane to clean the crash, but they were able to reopen it the following day.
